Welcome to Pawsable Prospects, where our passion for Standard Poodles drives us to produce exceptional companions and competitors. Our breeding program is built on a foundation of love, dedication, and a commitment to the highest standards of health, temperament, and versatility.

At Pawsable Prospects, we are dedicated to breeding Standard Poodles that embody versatility, biddability, and reliability.

We prioritize health and temperament, ensuring that our puppies are adaptable, eager to learn, and ready to thrive in any environment.

Our Philosophy

Owner Rebekah Undersander is a professional dog trainer specializing in medical alert and psychiatric service dogs. Rebekah’s knowledge and experience are instrumental in helping us raise puppies that are stable, confident, and eager to learn. Her training methods ensure that our puppies are well-prepared to thrive in their new homes. We keep our puppies until they are 10 weeks old to ensure they receive thorough socialization and care.

We are committed to the health and well-being of our dogs and exceed the Canine Health Information Center (CHIC) requirements for all of our breeding dogs. Our comprehensive health testing includes evaluations from the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA), where all results are publicly accessible. In addition, we conduct VGL (Veterinary Genetics Laboratory) testing through UC Davis. This health testing provides valuable insights into genetic and physical health, ensuring that our dogs are free from hereditary conditions and contributing to the overall quality and longevity of our breeding program.

Health

To ensure that each puppy is placed in an environment where they will thrive, we use a combination of tools and methods:

  • APET Temperament Test: We utilize the APET (Aptitude Test for Puppies) to evaluate each puppy's temperament. This test provides valuable insights into the puppy’s personality, including their level of sociability, adaptability, and drive. By understanding these traits, we can better match puppies with families that align with their natural inclinations and abilities.

  • Structural Evaluations: In addition to temperament, we assess each puppy's structural soundness and physical characteristics. This evaluation helps us understand the puppy's potential in various roles, whether as a companion, show dog, or service animal.

  • Application Review: We carefully review your application, which includes information about your lifestyle, preferences, and the intended role for the puppy. This information helps us identify the traits and qualities that are most important for your family or intended use, ensuring that the match is both suitable and successful.

Our Matching Approach

At Pawsable Prospects, we understand that finding the right puppy for your home and lifestyle is crucial to ensuring a successful and fulfilling relationship. Our puppy matching process is designed to carefully consider both the needs of the prospective owner and the unique traits of each puppy.

Our breeding program is grounded in a deep respect for the Standard Poodle breed and a commitment to producing dogs that meet and exceed breed standards. We focus on:

  • Versatility: We strive to produce puppies that excel in a variety of roles and activities, demonstrating their ability to adapt and perform in multiple environments. Whether it's competing in sports, serving as a medical alert dog, or being a loving family companion, our puppies are prepared for diverse challenges.

  • Biddability: Our breeding program emphasizes selecting dogs that are eager to learn and responsive to training. This trait ensures that our puppies are not only intelligent but also willing to engage in training and activities, making them ideal candidates for various pursuits.

  • Reliability: We prioritize the development of stable, confident, and reliable dogs. Our goal is to produce puppies that are dependable in different situations, whether they're participating in competitions, working as service dogs, or adapting to family life.

Our Approach

In addition to these core principles, we utilize advanced techniques to give our puppies the best start in life:

  • Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS): This program involves a series of exercises and experiences designed to enhance the neurological development of puppies. ENS helps improve their adaptability, resilience, and overall health, setting a strong foundation for their future growth and learning.

  • Early Scent Introduction (ESI): ESI introduces puppies to a variety of scents during their early developmental stages. This exposure helps to develop their olfactory senses and contributes to a well-rounded and adaptable adult dog.

  • AviDog Program: The AviDog program integrates early socialization and stimulation techniques tailored to the unique needs of puppies. This program focuses on creating positive experiences and enriching environments to foster confident, well-adjusted dogs.

  • Early Swimming Exposure: We introduce our puppies to swimming early, allowing them to build confidence and develop their physical coordination in a controlled and positive environment.

  • Public Socialization Events: Our puppies are exposed to various public socialization events to help them become comfortable and well-adjusted in different environments. This early exposure helps them adapt to new situations and people with ease.

  • Crate Training: Crate training is introduced slowly, starting with meals and a littermate in the crate to create a positive association. We gradually increase the duration the puppies spend in the crate alone, helping them adjust to being in their crate comfortably. This early training helps ensure a smooth transition to their new homes.

  • Potty Training: We start our puppies on potty training early with a focus on litter training. As they progress, they are taught to go outside on command. This early training has proven successful for our new owners, making the transition to their new homes smoother and helping puppies quickly adapt to their new routines.

  • Car Rides: Our puppies experience multiple car rides to get them accustomed to traveling. This early exposure helps them become more comfortable and less anxious during car journeys.

  • Grooming Exposure: Standard Poodles require a lifetime of grooming, so we start early with positive exposure to grooming experiences. Our puppies are introduced to face, feet, and sanitary shaves, as well as baths and the high-velocity dryer, helping them become accustomed to grooming routines before they go to their new homes.

We are actively involved in several organizations dedicated to the advancement and promotion of Standard Poodles:

  • United Poodle Association (UPA): As a member and volunteer for the nominating and education committee, I am deeply committed to supporting the UPA's mission to promote the health, welfare, and quality of Poodles. The UPA is dedicated to advancing the breed through education, responsible breeding practices, and fostering a community of Poodle enthusiasts.

  • Versatility in Poodles (VIP): I am honored to serve as the Vice President of VIP, an organization that celebrates the versatility of Poodles. VIP is dedicated to showcasing the diverse abilities of Poodles in various disciplines, from obedience and agility to service work and more. My involvement in VIP reflects my commitment to highlighting the multifaceted talents of Standard Poodles and supporting their achievements in a wide range of activities.

Club Memberships & Involvement

Raising and matching our puppies is a team effort that involves not only our dedication but also the support of an incredible "village":

  • My Amazing Husband: He plays a crucial role in our program, falling in love with every single puppy and supporting all of my dreams for Pawsable Prospect's. He shows our breeding dogs and helps with the demanding sleeping schedules during the first weeks when the puppies are never left alone. His commitment and care ensure that each puppy receives the attention and love they need. You will often see photos of him giving the puppies extra cuddles throughout their time with us.

  • Family and Friends: Our family and friends are invaluable in the early stages of a puppy’s life. They come to help with socialization and exposure to new people and experiences, including medical devices. This early interaction is essential for developing well-adjusted and confident puppies.
